Hasn’t happened to me, per se, but I just thought the message was an important one.

Quick Speedpaint Tutorial, how I draw cloudy skies. This one here took me 5 minutes… the difference between speedpaints and detailed pictures is, that I simply draw more details into the clouds, but this one is just faster and way more fun =v=)b

I start with a light gradiation. Since it is going to be a cloudy sky the color doesn’t really matter since I will pain clouds all over it in a bit anyway. In this case I go for light blue. Only light blue, no dark colors.

Now I make a new layer and go over it with a rough waterbrush. Since I use IllustStudio, I made myself a cloud-brush that is a bit more rough than the ones you find on IS-brush-sites, but there is a good one on DA! Just search for IllustStudio and you will find it. ^^ I make sure I still have many textures here.

Next I make a new layer on multiply mode and paint over it again in the same color to get some nice dark patches. (Ignore the light color-spot. I use that color in the next step)

Add a new layer. Now I use the same brush but a bit smaller to add some light color to the edges. I blur the edges on one side (always blurring the edge away from the sun!) a bit when drawing the highlights.

Short info: Up until now, it took 2 minutes to draw =v=)b

Add a new layer on top, set it on multiply and use the darker color again to draw some ‘details’ (It is a SPEED backgound, so basically I just splash some darker spots on the clouds.)

As always: New layer. Now I add some more highlights and -now- I use a hard round waterbrush to draw the rays.

As usual: New layer on top of the other layers. This time I set it on ‘Addition Flash’. ‘Screen’ works too, but I like the other better… it’s more flashy~ I use an airbrush with very low opacity and start brushing over the light areas to add some glow.

Now to add some final touches, I use my cloud-waterbrush again, this time on very low opacity. I use some colors over the clouds, just to round it up =v=)b Aaaaand we are done~~~~ TADA!!! 5 minutes for the whole thing!!
